Defendant taunted claimant with paint ball gun, the shot him in the eye. Eye recovers nicely however, claimant must be watched more closely for cataracts and wear protective eyeglasses for sports activities. Settled at mediation. $62,000.00: 63 year old woman falls in retail store due to a “bump” in the carpet, bump not visible to the eye, only slightly raised on carpeted floor, fell forward on knee, had prior problems with knee, doctors only attributed exacerbation of prior knee injury to the fall, no surgery required after physical therapy, settled prior to the initiation of legal action. $2 Million: Minor child falls over railing that was designed to be build too low, falls two stories, brain injury. $2.9 Million: Thirty six year old electrician working on light fixture that was defectively wired by prior electrician, electric shock, closed head injury. $1.7 Million: Motor cycle accident, 45 year old man riding motor cycle struck by a vehicle turning left, 11 compound fractures in leg, multiple skin grafts, and multiple surgeries, settled prior to trial. $300,000.00: Thirty seven year old man working at factory lost finger while using defective “seed” machine, machine old and loaned to employer by manufacturer, machine taken scene of accident day after the loss, no inspection on machine, loss of function to the hand of approximately 25%, settled at mediation. $400,000.00: 22 year old man doing auto repair work in a rental bay of a warehouse. In another bay a worker is cutting wood, a piece of wood flies from this bay to Mr. Larrieux’s bay, striking him in the eye. Loss of central vision causes a need for vocational training as his occupation requires hand and eye coordination that he is not longer capable of doing.
